Tuberculosis, MTB, or TB (short for tubercle bacillus), in the past also called phthisis, phthisis pulmonalis, or consumption, is a common, and in many cases fatal, infectious disease caused by various strains of mycobacteria, usually Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Tuberculosis typically attacks the lungs, but can also affect other parts of the body. It is spread through the air when people who have an active TB infection cough, sneeze, or otherwise transmit respiratory fluids through the air (Wikipedia)
Detail of a painting by Werner Horvath.
Very cool painting combining art and science.
Thanks a lot!
I was an Art Director for Educational Publishing – I worked with many freelance medical artists – I discovered long ago how visually beautiful bacteria (both good and bad) can be. You’ve taken ‘science’ into another realm with your conceptual imagery and fantastic palette

Thanks again! Well, I was a physician (radiologist) until the age of 50 when I decided to quit my medical profession and to go completely for art. And I love the world of microbiology!
